GFC  BURNING PERMITS AVAILABLE ON-LINE

The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) now offers permits to burn residential yard debris on-line by logging on to www.gatrees.org.

Alan Dozier, GFC Chief of Forest Protection, said the process is quick and easy.  “Simply go to the GFC website and choose on-line permitting,” he said.  Dozier points out that more than two-thirds of Georgia’s 300,000 outdoor burning permits are for leaf piles and other small debris piles from yard cleaning.

The GFC on-line system may be switched on or off depending on fire danger – which allows GFC Rangers to manage permits in any county.  When a user enters the system, the county of application should be selected to prompt a display of rules for that area.

“All you have to do for a permit is agree to the rules and enter the required information,” Dozier said.  “Then we (GFC) know who you are and where the burning will be done. The process is so simple that once people try it, we expect they will use it for every application.”

GFC records show that certain seasons of the year create a great demand for burning permits.  The on-line application system is designed to make permits easily available at the homeowner’s convenience.
